How to Unlock the new Aero Shake Taskbar in Windows 7?

by Harshad on November 6, 2008

Windows 7 was announced at recent Microsoft PDC 2008, with new features and design. Many Windows users were thinking that it will not be available for download so early, but surprisingly, you can download it from some popular torrents.

Windows 7 comes with the new Aero Shake Taskbar, which is disabled at present because it is still incomplete and not fully stable. However, it can be enabled by using tricks suggested on WithinWindow.

The new Aero Shake Taskbar is still broken and you might face problems and bugs when using Aero Peek and Jumplists. But if you still want to unlock it, you can use the following steps.

Download a copy of the Taskbar Unlock Tool for 32Bit or 64Bit and drop it in your Windows directory. Execute the following commands as an Administrator in Command Prompt.

  • takeown /f %windir%\explorer.exe
  • cacls %windir%\explorer.exe /E /G MyUserName:F (replacing MyUserName with your username)
  • taskkill /im explorer.exe /f
  • cd %windir%
  • Start unlockProtectedFeatures.exe

After changing the protected feature lock state, you can re-launch the shell by clicking the Launch button.
