So, now it’s time to jailbreak iPhone 3G with PwnageTool 3.1. The following guide is only useful for Mac OSX users. Windows users wait for update from iPhone Dev team. They will soon announce new RedsnOw for Windows OS.
Here’s how you can jailbreak iPhone 3G with the help of PwnageTool. But before that please read these instructions regarding iPhone 3.1 jailbreaking.
Guide to Jailbreak iPhone 3G OS 3.1 with PwnageTool 3.1
Requirements:
- iTunes 9
- Custom iPhone OS 3.1
- PwnageTool 3.1 for Mac
Important:
Backup your iPhone 3G before using this jailbreaking guide.
Steps to follow:
1. Download all the required files. Create one folder ‘PwnageTool 3.1’ on Desktop and save downloaded files in this folder.
2. Start PwnageTool 3.1 on your Desktop.
3. Choose your Mode, Simple Mode or Expert Mode
- Simple mode – It will automatically jailbreak and unlock your iPhone 2G. You don’t have to perform any other operation.
- Expert mode – It gives you facility to choose iPhone OS 3.1 firmware, Cydia etc.
Here, we recommend you to choose Expert mode to perform jailbreaking on iPhone 3G.
4. In Expert mode, select your iPhone 3G and proceed further by clicking on blue arrow.
5. Select your appropriate firmware file and move ahead.
6. Now, select ‘General’ option and go to General settings.
7. In General settings, you’ll find 3 options i.e. Activate the iPhone, Enable baseband update and Disable partition wipe-out.
- For official carrier users – Select ‘Enable baseband update’ option, which will automatically update your baseband and then uncheck ‘Activate the iPhone’ option.
- For other carrier users – Uncheck “Enable baseband update” option.
8. In next step, go to Cydia settings and follow the instructions.
9. Then move to ‘Custom logos’ by clicking on blue arrow. In Custom logos you can add your own logo and replace the default logo. To keep original logo, uncheck all other options.
10. If you are done with all the settings, select ‘Build’ option and click on blue arrow to continue.
11. Save custom .ipsw file on your desktop or in ‘PwnageTool 3.1’ folder and now follow the instructions displayed on your screen.
12. Open iTunes 9 to restore iPhone 3G.
13. Hold the ‘Alt/Option‘ key and click on ‘Restore‘. Select Custom iPhone OS 3.1 IPSW file from ‘PwnageTool 3.1′ folder. iTunes 9 will automatically restore iPhone 3.1 firmware on iPhone.
