Earlier today iPhone Dev team has released new tool for iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 2G. As suggested by dev team, it only works on Mac OS platform and Windows users can’t use this tool jailbreak or unlock their phones.

Backup your iPhone 3GS before using this jailbreaking guide.
Steps to follow:
1. Download all important files on your desktop.
2. Run PwnageTool 3.1.3 and select iPhone 3GS from the options.
3. Select the iPhone 3.1 firmware with iPhone2,1_3.1_7C144 build.
4. Perform all the instructions displayed on your screen to build custom .IPSW file of 3.1 firmware.
5. After successful completion of process, open iTunes 9 and restore your iPhone 3GS to custom firmware by holding option key.
6. That’s it! iTunes will detect the firmware and upgrade your phone to iPhone 3.1. Enjoy.
