by Harshad on November 6, 2009

iPhone Blacksn0w has already been released by GeoHot on November 4th. For those who don’t know anything about blacksn0w, it is an unlocking tool developed by popular iPhone developer GeoHot. It helps iPhone to unlock baseband 05.11.07 on iPhone 3.1.2 firmware.

I have already posted a simple guide to jailbreak the iPhone firmware 3.1.2 using blackra1n RC3. You can use this guide to jailbreak your phone and then use following guide to unlock the latest firmware.

Repo: http://blackra1n.com

5. Cydia will install the repo. Open it and install blacksn0w.

Once you update to next firmware, you’ll have to jailbreak and unlock it again.

Hi-

I followed the jailbreak steps- worked fine. I am pretty sure I followed the unlock steps but it won’t unlock. I then tried the alternate suggestion but when I start blackra1n on my PC it only says “make it rain”, I can’t find any “snow” under the app.

Dude, open that app on your iPhone and then follow the steps. :)

I understand that the jailbreak (and thus unlock by default) only last as long as the phone remains on? I hear if you let the battery die and or shut your phone off and restart it, you lost the jailbreak (and thus unlock) and have to re-do the process.

Its called a “teathered jailbreak.”

Can anyone confirm this?

No, it’s not true.

I’ve unlock my iphone 2g with blackra1n but only allows me to download cydia and r0ck… the sn0w is missing. everytime I switch my sim card from att to a diffent sim the iphone will show the “sync to itunes” icons (emergency calls only). is there another way to download black sn0w?
