HTC has launched its high end Windows Mobile phone HTC HD2 and Google is also releasing its much awaited phone, Nexus One, on January 5th.
Both the phones have all the features that can fulfill the needs of a common man as well as a geek. I have been following these two phones quite closely and thought I should write a post, which will help all the readers take wise decision before buying the phone. Let’s compare Google Nexus One and HTC HD2 with each other.

As you can see in above comparison, both the phones have almost similar features. It is very difficult to pick any one mobile, but I will try to simplify above technical details so that everyone can understand it.
Operating Systems:
HTC HD2 runs on Windows Mobile 6.5, which is said to be a just another update for Windows Mobile phones and many Windows Mobile users have disappointed with its overall performance. Windows Mobile 6.5 doesn’t have any special features that can make the mobile experience better. However, Nexus One’s Android 2.1 OS is the latest OS on Android phones. It is certainly smoother and faster than its previous versions. So, Nexus One has edge over HTC HD2.
Weight:
HTC HD2 weighs around 157g where as Nexus One weighs only 133g. People always prefer a light weighted mobile phone and such phones are always easy to carry anywhere in the world. Hence, Nexus One got one more point now.
App Store:
iPhone, the best mobile phone in the world, has gained its popularity due to the well maintained app store. Android’s Market is still new place and doesn’t have good quality apps for users, where as HTC HD2 has got good marketplace to buy apps and games.
Price:
Nexus One’s price has not been declared by Google, but some sources have confirmed that it will cost around $530. HTC HD2 is available in the market and it costs for $740. Now, there is nothing much to say about the price, Nexus One has attractive price tag as compared to HD2.
Note: Google Nexus One has not released yet, and above analysis is done with the help of information available on the internet.
Well, everything else is pretty much common in these two phones. There are very less points on which we can actually compare them and get the final result.
Conclusion:
Nexus One and HTC HD2 are truly best phones in their own categories, but if we compare them, Nexus One beats HD2 in various important factors mentioned in the analysis.
What’s your opinion on these two phones? Do let me know.

i too am also debating on these two phones. Right now i’m using the HTC fuze with some 2.1 manila sense cooked into it. I’m loving the sense UI more than the nexus one (then again I havent played with one yet). I love how winmo setup their interface with whats commonly used while the NOne has to go through many, pokes, I call it.
I’d love to have an Android phone though. Based on the apps it already has is more fitting to my needs like buying mp3z through amazon. Then again I can also do that via laptop and connecting through usb.
Been using a winmo device and it does seem a little laggy at times but with many different cooked roms, they’ve become a lot smoother. The stock roms on the other hand… BLAH. I wont even go near them.
As much as I wanna try the NOne (which I will when its released) I’ll have the answer to my question, “Which do I prefer?” Right now I’m leaning over to HTC HD2.
Just a point, seems like you only picked out points that were favorable to the Nexus. In the Engadget review they didn’t seem to care much for the screen on the Nexus, its smaller then the HD2 and the AMOLED screen was very difficult to see if the light wasn’t just right and the color was kinda cartoonist, but it does do blacks apparently very well. I’m even split between the two, I need to find someone who has them to play around with before I choose.
Well you can choose when they both come out later this year for Tmobile. Its more of whatever suits your life style. I own a PC with Win7. The HD2 will be upgradable to run WM7 in the future. Just imagine the twos connection together.
I’m putting the N1 into the media bass type section along side with the Iphone. Its based on apps but the N1 also leans little to the business type phones. So it can be used for both. Its just all on the user.
If you’re under the sun a lot then thats your problem with the screen lol. Id never leave my phone under or even use it in the sun. Like they said, might as well play with it with your eyes closed. The N1 screen is smaller yes but everyones debating if they want it or not more for its offers and features. The Iphones kool cause of its features not screen. Same for the N1 and HD2.
Again, I’m still going for the HD2.
i’ve got both . the htc hd2 is a complete phone . laggy at times but does everything perfectly.
android is still evolving . but the nexus is very very fast . but it is still an incomplete phone as u cannot load simple apps like skype on it !!!
i prefer the hd 2 anyday !!!! i am selling of my nexus soon .
Thanks for this review and thanks to Kah. I’m not really tech savy and my current phone is more than 3 years old, so I’m at a big disadvantage in terms of understanding operating systems, what they can do and what it all means to me as a user.
I have filtered out both the Nokia N97 and the iPhone from my search for my next phone and have been debating between the HD2 and Nexus. This had made things much clearer for me. I was, however, of the understanding that Nexus was not multi-touch (as the reviewer’s comparision suggests), but never the less, I don’t want to get a phone that is severly limited in it’s apps, so it looks like, for me, that Android is out and Microsoft is in. Thanks again.
well if we compare this two phones side by side the HD2 will win hands down
just becouse this phone with the right software like flash can do anething
it’s got millions of apps and games of any kinde for windows mobile with endless capabilities. something that can’t be done with android or iphone.
now is there something that this phone can’t do? …………..
You can add no. of applications in phones, but that’s not the point of this discussion. Just see what company offers to you while comparing any phones.
I’m using both android and wm and so far wm is more of my decision. it does everything I want. Droid is another app base phone. I dont like pressing and pressing and pressing to get somewhere. I like it on the spot. Sorry droid. I know the iphone and droids os is a lot more stable but so it wm. It may lag once in a while but not bad. Especially flashed roms. Stock roms, you can dump everything in there
I prefer Nexus One… personally
to me it also seems to be a one sided review. for example more wieght has been mentioned but bigger screen size can also be a advantage. Opreating system is also a question of preferrence. with sense UI i think HTC has done a great job on HD2
i am someone who is still is useing the razor and had a chance to upgrade a couple months ago and dicided to pick up the N1 worst thing i have ever done with in a couple of days i returned it i thought it was to complicated and ididnt like how all my facebook stuff was on the homescreen i no you can get ride of that but thats what the phone was supposed to do so i said screw it but then a buddy of mine got the htc touch pro 2 wich runs windows 6.1 and said this is the phone for me and dicided that my next phone would run on windows and what a choice i made iv done my research and this phone is close to being perfect all thats remaing is the online download of windows 7 which will be available soon
SO HTC HD 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are wrong about the HD2's Screen, its TFT not OLED….
Thanks for pointing out the mistake. Much appreciated!
