No Windows Phone 7 Update for HTC HD2

by Harshad on March 1, 2010

HTC HD2 HTC HD2 users were hoping to get Windows Phone 7 update on their mobile phone. HTC’s official twitter account had also updated about Windows Mobile 7 on HD2, but it seems Microsoft and HTC are not going to provide any new update for the device.

Natasha Kwan, Microsoft’s Mobile Communications Business in the Asia-Pacific region, has given an interesting statement on future Windows Phone 7 update for HTC HD2.

She said, “Because we have very specific requirements for Windows Phone 7 Series the current phones we have right now will not be upgradable”; the HD2 “doesn’t qualify because it doesn’t have the three buttons”.

In the last month, Microsoft revealed Windows Phone series in front of entire world and everyone was thinking that HTC HD2 could be the first device to get Windows Phone 7 update. Unfortunately, it doesn’t meet with the high specifications required for upcoming Windows Phone OS.

If you are planning to get HTC HD2, you may want to change the decision as there will be no Windows Phone 7 on it and you will have to deal with not so great WinMo 6.5.3. As far as specifications and features are concerned, Google’s Nexus One is the best alternative for HD2 device.

the fun part is that i believe the htc is somekind of a prototyp plantform for windows phone 7 and still we are the lab rats that get screwed with the gonne wrong experiment. but its also funny how microsoft capitalizes things and seems to help htc preventing the idea of the deserved update by stating, and this is riddiculous people that there are 3 buttons not 5. wow, what a huge obstacle htc. thats a fifty mt tall wall. let me see htc as 5 buttons plus volume rocker keys, also the windows phone 7 os is totally touchscreen, meanning that a small change would have o be made to button assigning parameters in order for the right firmware/rom to be developed for the hd2 with full windows phone 7 integration. whats the deal with you people. were is the quality service you brag so much about. were are we in the middle of your money making market strategy? oh yeah, thats right in the bottom, after the money, and the money, and the money...

just to remember you guys sign the following petition let our rights be heard:

i definitly agree that one should not buy the phone expecting for an uncertain upate but after experiencing the badly flawed wm6.5 os on the htc hd2 (totaly incompatible, and ridiculous by the way) i must say that the iniciative for mending a bad mistake should come from htc it self and not from us clients begging for mercy on their behalf so that we can reatach to theim and rebuilt our trust. its shamefull, its unacceptable and soon it will only e htc

i've been contacting htc but i'm being lead to believe that i've benn blacklisted from their support section since i no more receive their received mail notification, nor any answer to my questions. i think they are getting fed up with theyr clients, one more point on professional ethics and enthusiastic client support for htc. i've send about 5 mails after receiving their last reply and no answer so far after about 4 days. htc just keeps on showing us how it should not be done

i think that when someone pays 700 euros for a mobile that is considered to be the best hardware on the market, theres a silent comitment that means we are buyng something thats meant to stay on the vanguard for at least a considerable amount of time and not to go downhill and become obsolete in the blink of an eye. and my friends, make no mistake thats whats happening when htc denies the update for this device. besides de os in the device does'nt allow me to take any advantage of the high end features like the amazing processing speed and multitouch. Sense is a great disguise but nothing more thats just it

thats right you guys we must show that we are here and if we placed so much money on an high end device our expectations should be answered. we were backstabbed, theres no other word. not by the fact alone that windows mobile 6.5 sucks on the hd2 but because they probably knew (and this is all about market strategy) that the new windows was comming. this is very unnetical from htc. we are stuck with a powerfull hardware and stil we wont be able to access and use all of its features since all new software technology is being migrated to windows phone 7, meaning that we will never get any apps with multitouch or for any effect any usefull apps since all we get from marketplace for wm6.5 are some crappy apps. way to go htc. we must be heard people. the petition might not show pratical results in terms of changing htc's mind and builting on to them some professional ethics but it will show the world that we are not pleased with the lack of commitment from htc torwards their clients. we must speake or else this will go unpunished and people will forever remain unaware that htc's behaviour torwards their clients is flawed, very flawed, specially if this update doesnt come to happen.

    edit *i ordered the hd2*
  • vernon
this is just bulls**t! i just ordered my hd@ and now this....i mean whats the problem cause hardware and specs meet the requirements just two extra buttons cause a problem this is phuken mad. atleast apple has support for all their iphones..i love htc but this is not on!!!!!!!
  • Yeah, it's really unfortunate for those who are using HTC HD2. HTC should have developed a compromised Windows Phone 7 upgrade for HD 2 users.

to everyone as frustrated and angry has i'am by the way htc is neglecting the owners of the htc hd2 go ahead and post your petition on the following blog (http://windowsphone7updatehtchd.blogspot.com/). lets make ourselfs be heard since we have the hardware and htc sense only makes sense while disguising the flaws of the native windows mobile explorer menus and windows designed for resistive screens. let us show them we paid to get some supporta nd that means the proper hardware support wich they chose not to gives for some reason and the apps our devices have never seen due to the poor experience of wm 6.5 on thi device

i think this phone was rushed to the market to beat the competition.
It has a lot of bugs in it that were not addressed. It shows that big companies
don't care about quality. They wear you down later when you try to complain.
  • In my opinion, such petition won't work in favor of end users. Microsoft and HTC have officially turned down the possibility of next Windows Phone 7 update for HTC HD2 devices.
