5 Important iOS 4 Problems and Solutions

After successful release of Comex’s jailbreak tool, most of the users have used the JailbreakMe tool to jailbreak their iDevices. The new technique of jailbreaking is quite impressive and effective, as we don’t need to follow multiple complex steps to complete the process.

However, some users have reported various issues after jailbreaking their devices with JailbreakMe 2.0. So, I’m compiling a list of iOS and jailbreak related problems and their solutions in this post, which might help people resolve few bugs and errors.

1. Winterboard Issues on jailbroken devices

Winterboard I have already addressed the Winterboard related problems in earlier post. At this moment, I haven’t found any substantial fix to this issue yet. Most of the themes and app add-ons are not upgraded to work with iOS 4 and iOS 4.0.1, so this is the main reason behind several issues.

Solution: Well, just uninstall Winterboard from the device and wait for the proper fix.

2. iPhone 3G’s Performance on iOS 4

iOS 4 Apple had assured everyone that they would look into the iOS 4 performance issues on iPhone 3G devices, but we haven’t seen any change in the latest firmwares so far. This problem persists in newly released iOS updates.

Solution: You can check these methods to fix the issue on your iPhone 3G. Try at your own risk.

3. PDF Exploit in iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad

Although Apple has released iOS 4.0.2 and iPad OS 3.2.2 patch for Jailbreak exploit, they haven’t provided any update to older devices. In all Apple’s iDevices, only iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 2G, iPod Touch 3G and iPad has received the latest update and they have not provided patch for iPhone 2G and iPod Touch 1G . The PDF exploit used in Comex’s JailbreakMe tool can easily be used to spread malicious files and can cause severe damage to the devices.

PDF Patch Solution: The Dev team knows about this issue and hence Jay Freeman (Saurik) has released a new patch for PDF exploit, which fixes the security holes in all versions of iPhone and iPod Touch. Even if you want to downgrade the device to older firmware, it will still work on your devices.

The new patch is available at Cydia tool for jailbroken devices. Open Cydia and search “PDF Patch”. Install it and patch the holes. To verify, visit to jailbreakme.com. If you don’t get any pop-up message, it’s fixed.

4. Purple Screen Problem with JailbreakMe

Purple Screen Many iDevice owners are reporting this problem on various public platforms. The purple screen problem occurs due to browser cache. Once you clear the cache, you will be able to jailbreak the device using JailbreakMe tool.

Solution: Open Settings and go to Safari browser’s settings. Now, tap on clear the history, cookies and cache. Once done, try to jailbreak with JailbreakMe. It will definitely work.

5. Standby Battery Life Issue on Unlocked iPhones

Ultrasn0w1.1-1 After using Ultrasn0w 1.0-1 to unlock the iPhone, people started seeing considerable loss in battery life of their devices. The iOS 4 has already been criticized for its poor performance and the new unlock makes devices useless.

Solution: To solve this issue, install Ultrasn0w 1.1-1 through Cydia and run it to unlock the iPhone. The updated version of Ultrasn0w helps stabilize the standby battery life of the devices.

I think these are some of the tips and tricks that you should implement on your devices. If you are facing any other bugs/errors, do let me know in the comment section below.
