5 Must-Try Apps for All Android Phone Users

When the first Android powered handset ‘G1’ was launched with T-mobile back in 2008, the app store that Google boasted in front of the world was nothing close to the Apple App Store with a handful of apps and only a single smartphone to show off. It never seemed that Google could challenge Apple’s app heap.

But the past few months have been kind to Google. The recent release of several new high end Android handsets like the HTC Legend, Motorola Droid and Motorola Cliq has turned that initial drizzle of apps. Now, with over 10,000 apps and counting, Google’s Android Market can very well challenge the Apple App Store. The Android Market offers apps for everything to its users and hence it becomes very difficult to find out which is the right one. Here are some of the important apps that every Android user must try on the mobile phone.

5. Astrid

Astrid is a task recording dashboard where you can make list of the jobs that you need to do in the near future. The app offers a clean interface and has humanizing reminds to keep you motivated towards doing the job. The app also lets you categorize the work according to the important and not so important ones and hence gives a better scheduling ability. And, above all that the app is available for free in the app store.

4. Taskiller Free

The downside to Android’s multi-tasking is that sometimes, some apps can become unexpectedly become memory or bandwidth hogs, or bring your phone down with them when they crash. Few apps provide a direct, easy “Quit” option, though, and sometimes you can’t get to the app to close it. Enter TasKiller, a free app-killing utility that works from its standard icon, or as one of a number of widgets you can add to your home screen for one-click system rescuing. The free version serves up ads and lacks a few advanced features, but generally serves the needs of anyone who’s sick of needing to actually reset their phone just to clear up space for, you know, phone calls and such.

3. Slidescreen

Slidescreen is an ideal screen transformation app that the Android app store boasts for social networking lovers as this converts their home screen into one which carries the latest updates from all the social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Chat etc. SlideScreen also replaces the standard application tray, giving you 8 slots to put your most frequently accessed apps, and tucking all the others into a rolling deck below. It’s a total makeover for your phone, in other words—one that might just make you fall in love all over again with the concept of mobile data.

2. Open Home

Open Home is another of the screen transformation apps, but believe me this one goes beyond what everyone else does. This app is like the Windows Blinds of the Android and really makes your phone yours for once without any condition. The app provides the users the ability to re-skin the interface and tweak options Google never dreamt possible.

1. Wave Secure

WaveSecure not only backs up your contacts, SMS messages, photos, videos, and other files to the developer’s cloud for later restoring if your phone gets lost, but can lock down a phone when you’re stashing it for a while, locate a phone with GPS or text message triangulation (seriously), and, as a final option, pull off a total and complete remote wipe if you fear all is lost. The app is one that all Android users must try on their devices and see how well this works for themselves.

So, what are your experiences regarding these apps, have you ever been in a fix using one of these apps? You can report in the comments section below.
