Apple today launched an iMac desktop computer model for educational institutes. The new iMac costs $999 at Higher Education store, which is obviously cheaper than other iMac models available in the market.

Many educational institutes have always preferred Windows based PCs for their courses, but Apple knows that it’s very important to expand their reach in this relatively smaller field. Today’s new model, however, doesn’t offer all the new features to users. Here’s what Apple team has included in the educational iMac.
Features and specifications of educational iMac
- Display – 21.5-inch (viewable) LED-backlit glossy widescreen TFT display with support for millions of colors; 1920 by 1080 pixels resolution
- Processor – 3.1 GHz dual-core Intel Core i3 with 3 MB on-chip shared L3 cache
- Memory – 2 GB (one 2 GB) of 1333MHz DDR3 memory (Configurable to 8 GB, only at the Apple Online Store.)
- Storage – 250 GB
- Graphics – AMD Radeon HD 6750M graphics processor with 256 MB of GDDR5 memory

Apple has not provided Thunderbolt port in this computer, so users will have to deal with the mini Display port. These models may not have all the specifications, but students can experience the latest Mac OS X Lion operating system in their schools and colleges.
Note: These models are only available for educations institutes. Individuals will not get any benefit of this offer.
