Sprint’s HTC EVO 4G is currently running on Android 2.1 operating system. The experience with Android 2.1 is fairly good on the first 4G phone, but many users have requested Sprint to provide Android 2.2 update for the phone.

The company has acknowledged the request of its customers and decided to bring Froyo update on HTC EVO 4G. Android 2.2 will enable flash on the browser and wireless voice dialing.

Nexus One users have already received Android 2.2 (unofficially) on their phones. Looking at the response from these users, Android 2.2 does make a difference in entire user experience. Google’s new mobile operating system is much faster than the previous versions and it also has some great features, which actually enhance the usability of phone.

Sprint on Twitter -

HTC EVO will be updated to Android 2.2; Samsung Moment & HTC Hero will not. Future devices launching w/ 2.1 will be also be updated to 2.2.

Sprint has also announced that HTC Hero and Samsung Moment will not get Android 2.2 Froyo. Since Android 2.2 requires intense resources, these phones are simply ruled out from the upgrade list.

However, Sprint has not declared any specific release date of Android 2.2 for HTC EVO 4G. Once the release date is announced, we will let you know.

Nexus one hasn’t received the Froyo update. Few phones (that were given away to press) had received a few updates that were beta, or release candidates. And there are some sites where you can download this updates and install them manually, but only on Nexus One T-Mobile version, they won’t install on the AT&T version unless it was previously rooted and the bootloader unlocked. Please try to do a minimum of research before posting.

  3. Yep, I didn't say all Nexus One phones received this update. Those who have got the Android 2.2. update on their phones are enjoying the new OS.

I have updated the post though. Thanks for clarification. :)

I'm sorry i was a little aggressive in my post, i am actually angry a Google for not giving a (beta, RC, whatever) version of Froyo for the AT&T models as well. You shouldn't have to void the warranty just to get an update, and, while i plan to unlock the bootloader, i'd like to do it later.

I'm not felling the love on my Nexus right now.

  5. No problem buddy. :)

HTC and Google are not really keen to provide OS updates to older devices. HTC had promised to bring Android 2.1 for HTC Hero and similar devices, but it took more than 6 months to release firmware updates. Most of these companies now believe in spending time and money to manufacture a new product instead of developing firmware updates for old devices.

As far as Nexus One is concerned, it will surely get the official Android 2.2 update. :)
