Apple to add Voice Based “Assistant” in iOS 5

It has been quite a time now that people are expecting Apple to bring a better user interaction medium in the iPhones. Last year, Apple acquired a company called Siri, which basically made voice based system navigation for phones. From that moment, it was being rumored that Apple will bring voice control to iPhone/iOS.

iOS 5 Assistant

From the sources of 9to5mac, it now looks possible. The source is an unnamed person who got hold of one such review unit of the iPhone which has voice control option. It is called the “Assistant”. It is more than just voice controls. It is designed to use voice input to access information on phone to use in phone’s software to perform a task. 9to5mac explained how the feature will work as,

We can imagine a user asking their iPhone “Assistant” to setup a movie with one of their friends. The user might say “setup movie with Mark” and based on Mark’s contact info and the user’s location data, will be able to offer tickets to a local theater and send Mark the information.

You can tell the Assistant a patterned command with keywords from local information and the task. It will pick up the information and process it the way you want, of course software guided. It sounds really cool and something that will make iPhones even smarter. About the release of this feature, it is an integration in iOS 5 SDK. But some experts think that Apple will make it an iPhone 5 exclusive feature.
