Even though Apple’s iOS 4 has been designed to work with iPhone 3G, users are not very much impressed with its performance on the phone.

One click jailbreak is not new to iPhone world, but the situation is not the same in Android community. Until now, we had to follow numerous steps to get the root access of Android phones, which were really difficult to remember and implement each time.

A developer at All Driod has released a new application for Droid X users, which allow anyone to root as well as unroot the devices with just single click. Now, there is absolutely no need to have technical knowledge about rooting the devices.

You will have to install the application on your Windows PC (as it doesn’t work on Mac). The application will ask you whether you want to root or unroot the device. Just click on appropriate option to get the desired results.

At this moment, you can only root the device for tethering and installing some of the Android apps. The custom ROMs are not available for Droid X as hackers have not solved the mystery of bootloader.

For more information on how to use this GUI application, read the instructions here.

Note: If you try to root the Droid X, it will void the warranty of device.

Great news for jailbreaking community! The Govt. of United States has approved new rules for iDevice users, which allow users to legally jailbreak the devices.

According to new ruling system, users can jailbreak as well as unlock their iPhones. Yes, now users can download and install any third party applications on their devices. Also, they can unlock the phones to choose different network.

For those who don’t know -

Jailbreak: It is a technique for overriding the software lock-down on the iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad in order to install applications that Apple has not approved.

Unlock: A handset can be unlocked by entering a special code, or in some cases, over-the-air by the carrier. Usually the unlock process is permanent.

Apple has been denying support services for jailbroken devices, but now new federal policies allow users to be eligible for such services. However, carriers can still file case against users who are violating their Terms of Services. You can get more information from here.

Finally, iPhone users can now jailbreak and unlock their devices without any doubt in mind. Will it affect the official carriers? Yes, the new policies will affect the official carriers in terms of profit shares. Many users are not really happy with the services of carriers like AT&T. The new terms will officially open the doors for users to change their carriers using unlocking techniques.

The iPhone Dev team has been developing jailbreak and unlock tools for last few years. These important changes in rules will definitely encourage more developers to build such useful tools for users.

Guess what? Microsoft is planning to give away Windows Phone 7 devices to its 90,000+ employees.

The software giant want its employees to have a look at the new innovation, which is being developed since last 12-15 months. The employees have worked really hard to develop Windows Phone 7 OS, and now the marketing team is trying to advertise it through such giveaway.

Mobile phones giveaway is certainly not a new thing to the tech world as many other companies, including Google, have done in the past. However, Microsoft employees are very much pleased with the announcement and looking forward to get their hands on the devices.

The developers have already started receiving Windows Phone 7 devices in this week, and final release is scheduled for late 2010. Although the new operating system has got good early response, some developers are not really happy about the overall performance.

I’m not waiting for 4.1 so I hope everyone has SHSH blobs saved. :p

SHSH blobs for 4.0.1 or 4.0 are fine; AFAIK there are no substantive differences except the bars

To be clear: if I don’t run into problems, it will work on 4.0 or 4.0.1. No need to update to 4.0.1. SHSH blobs for either are fine.

When Motorola launched their Android based Motorola Droid in the US, people were desperate to try out Android on the new phone. The phone was really a good package of hardware and software.

Now, Droid manufacturers are going to launch, Droid 2, an upgraded version for Android fans. The rumors are suggesting that the Droid 2 will get all advanced features so that it can compete with other leading phones.

The folks over at Droid Life have shared an image of Droid 2 running on Android 2.2 Froyo. Yes, the upcoming phone will be featuring Google’s latest Android 2.2 operating system.

The above snapshot also depicts that Droid will have similar blur skin as Droid X. It seems Motorola and Verizon have big plans for their customers. If everything goes according to plans, we might see Droid 2 launch in coming months.

Everything is going bad for Apple these days. In recent iPhone 4 conference, Apple tried to explain antenna issue and related problems of their newly released iPhone. Steve Jobs defended signal reception issue by showing multiple examples of different phones.

This strategy of bringing other manufacturers in the iPhone 4 antenna controversy doesn’t seem to help Apple. The manufacturers have already started bashing the Cupertino based company for pulling their names in the debacle.

HTC responded to Apple’s presentation at iPhone 4 conference by disapproving ‘common’ reception issues.

“The reception problems are certainly not common among smartphones,” HTC chief financial officer Hui-Meng Cheng said. “They (Apple) apparently didn’t give operators enough time to test the phone.”

RIM has also replied to this issue to protect their brand’s name in the world market. The company believes that Apple is unnecessary deflecting attention of end users. They have also commented on Apple’s business decisions and antenna design flaws.

“Apple’s attempt to draw RIM into Apple’s self-made debacle is unacceptable. Apple’s claims about RIM products appear to be deliberate attempts to distort the public’s understanding of an antenna design issue and to deflect attention from Apple’s difficult situation. RIM is a global leader in antenna design and has been successfully designing industry-leading wireless data products with efficient and effective radio performance for over 20 years. During that time, RIM has avoided designs like the one Apple used in the iPhone 4 and instead has used innovative designs which reduce the risk for dropped calls, especially in areas of lower coverage. One thing is for certain, RIM’s customers don’t need to use a case for their BlackBerry smartphone to maintain proper connectivity. Apple clearly made certain design decisions and it should take responsibility for these decisions rather than trying to draw RIM and others into a situation that relates specifically to Apple.”

- Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie

Nokia, the Asian mobile market leader, has also shared their views on antenna design as well as company’s strategy to build the design of mobile phone antennas.

Antenna design is a complex subject and has been a core competence at Nokia for decades, across hundreds of phone models. Nokia was the pioneer in internal antennas; the Nokia 8810, launched in 1998, was the first commercial phone with this feature.

Nokia has invested thousands of man hours in studying human behavior, including how people hold their phones for calls, music playing, web browsing and so on. As you would expect from a company focused on connecting people, we prioritize antenna performance over physical design if they are ever in conflict.

In general, antenna performance of a mobile device/phone may be affected with a tight grip, depending on how the device is held. That’s why Nokia designs our phones to ensure acceptable performance in all real life cases, for example when the phone is held in either hand. Nokia has invested thousands of man hours in studying how people hold their phones and allows for this in designs, for example by having antennas both at the top and bottom of the phone and by careful selection of materials and their use in the mechanical design.
