Comex leaves Jailbreak Community; Joins Apple

Yesterday, Apple’s Steve Jobs shocked the industry with his unexpected announcement. And now, Comex has decided to leave jailbreaking community to work at Apple.

In his tweet on Twitter, the hacker mentioned that he will be starting an internship with Apple in the coming weeks. Here’s what he said -

It’s good to see that Apple is hiring such talented hacker to improve its platform. Comex will now work as an Apple employee, so it won’t be possible for him to release future jailbreak tools for the iOS jailbreakers.

For the past few years, he has been finding exploits to bring jailbreak to the users and now that he has decided to quit the community he will be doing exactly opposite things at Apple as will help the company patch those security holes and exploits. It’s kind of strange, but there is no other option than accepting his decision.

Although the hacker has not provided any specific details about his job at Apple, it’s quite possible that Apple team will use his knowledge and experience in the security field. He has done commendable job in the community for few years. Let’s hope that he continues to do the same at the most valuable company in the world.

Comex’s departure from the jailbreak scene is a big blow for everyone. Looking at the future, jailbreakers will have to depend on only some of the members of iPhone Dev team and Chronic Dev team. Apple is also preparing to release its major iOS 5 update in next few weeks, so don’t be surprised if you see a delay in the jailbreak release.
