Dell is set to “thunder” into the mobile market with its “Lightning” and “Thunder” handsets. First is the Dell Lightning. The Dell Lightning runs on the upcoming mobile OS from Microsoft – WP7.
The device has a 4.1 inch WVGA OLED display. It is not yet confirmed whether it is AMOLED or Super-AMOLED. Hopefully, it will be the latter because of its better sunlight legibility. The phone will have a 1Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU and an 5MP camera.
The Lightning is a portrait slider with a full QWERTY based keyboard. It has 512MB of RAM and 1GB of ROM, along with 8GB of internal memory. There is native support for DivX, Flash and Silverlight. The usual FM Radio, Accelerometer, and GPS are all duly covered. Next in the line is the Dell Thunder.
While the Dell Lightning will cater to the WP7 OS audience, Thunder will cater to the needs of Android users. The Dell Thunder specifications similar to that of the Dell Lightning closely.
The Thunder will have a 4.1 inch WVGA OLED display (Again, AMOLED or Super-AMOLED?). The device has an 8MP camera. Unlike the Lightning, the Dell Thunder won’t have a portrait QWERTY keyboard. The Thunder will run on Android OS v2.1 when it will be released.
The Dell Thunder also runs a custom interface called “Stage”. The “Stage” UI looks to bring together a much tighter integration of Facebook and Twitter, for a better social networking experience.
The Dell Thunder is also said to come with an “integrated web video Hulu app.” Like the Dell Lightning, the Dell Thunder will have Flash 10.1 support out-of-the-box.
Both, the Lightning and the Thunder are expected to release by Q4, of this year. It is also expected that Dell will release a LTE model of both the phones at the end of Q4, 2011.
