hi all. please help if you can! i’m on expert on these matters!

my iphone (1st or 2nd gen, silver back) was previously jailbroken a while back (by a friend, so i’m not familier with the process), and i use an orange simcard now.
i stupidly updated to the 3.0 firmware via itunes last week

it duly updated to 3.0, then locked the phone back up, and reverted to emergency calls only.

my questions are:
1. can i use redsn0w to unlock the phone again?
2. …and resynch with all my original data (contact/pictures/calender/apps, etc)?
3. and if so, in what order shall i do the steps?
4. do i need to pop in the original o2 sim card before starting, or can i leave my orange sim in?
5. do i ‘restore’ the iphone first (as suggested by some youtube vids), before starting?
6. i hear the ultrasn0w is out now… would this be a better solution?

btw. it looks to me from looking in C:Documents and SettingsusernameApplication DataApple Computer, that there’s not enough data to indicate that all my images etc are backed up. (argh)

i have downloaed redsn0w 0.72 and os 3.0 file
When i am running redsnow its asking me to browse for corresponding IPSW firware.
I am not able to find this firm where witten the 3.0 OS restore.IPSW
what file am i suppose to select withen the 3.0 OS restore folder ?

i tried downlaoded 3.0 OS restore files from 2 different links still redsn0w doesnt help me choose the right IPSW firware withen the folder.

What do u think is a better unlocking tool , the unlock sim card or the Software unlock.

Although i got Unlock Sim card from http://www.iphone-sim-unlock.com/ they dint work and their customer support really sucks. They send me a Rebel Sim card unlock.

I have been readin that the unlock sim card doesnt affect the 3G capabilities of the Iphone as does the software unlock.

Whats your view on this.

Hi, I have successfully jailbroken my phone and i use cydia to upgrade the MobileAppliciation.bat file so i can install downloaded third party apps direct from itunes. Once i have done this though and i switch my phone off, all the apps bought off itunes app store no longer work. The cracked apps work fine though.

Hi, I've tried to jailbreak/unlock my iphone 3G 3.0 firmware multiple times but it never works. First off, when i open the redsn0w software it has 2 options which say install cydia and install icy, but no unlock button. I'm not sure what that means. Secondly, after i click both of those options i follow all the steps it says but when it comes time to put my iphone in DFU mode it never works. I hold the power for 5 seconds then the home button for 10 seconds then release the power and hold the home for 20 seconds like it says but my screen goes black, but it DOESNT turn white like it should. I've tried this so many times and its never worked. Please help.

Since the tricker software is not available on Cydia anymore to fool 3G to believe it's wifi… is there something else out there to use instead?

get a more recent firmware and/or version of RedsnOw.
Had the same problem…actually still having some…but that one I found out recently.

I couldn’t get these options either, but then I got the redsn0w_0.7.2 instead of 0.7.1 and then the option to unlock was there. I also ensured that the FW was correct.

Ok, please help…I am trying to unlock iPhone 2g and possibly have 3g firmware, and am having issues with redsnOw.
I have ensured that all the procedures taken are correct, mirroring exactly the advice of the web, however; I still find issue.

I can get all the way to the “Downloading Jailbreak Data…” (shows icon of Hard Disk with green arrow.)
It says done, (tried both clicking immediately and leaving it.)
But it just continues…then the apple symbol shows and then I get the same screen as before I started (emergency call with connect to iTunes on same screen etc).
I never see the running pineapple at any point.
Note: I have attempted this with the sim inserted and removed.
Keep in mind though…that I do not have any original sim. Will this matter.

I feel I should tell you some background as well.
I did have the phone previously locked, however; the guy I purchased the phone made error when unlocking. I couldn’t add apps for some reason, even though it was unlocked and jailbroken.
I decided to redo the process and enable the ability to do all, plus gain some iPhone cracking knowledge along the way. I know…good job I’m doing…haha.
Anyway, I’ve done everything I can think of from every attempt software related and FW version related and multiple combos. I have even restored the original factory settings with iTunes. Still not sure if that was a good idea though.

Anyway…now I’m rambling. Any assistance you can provide would be spectacular.
