Fix Cydia Crashing Issue in iPhone 3.0 Firmware

iphone3.0 The iPhone 3.0 firmware is now one of the most talked topic in the tech world due to its mind blowing features and jailbreak-unlock tools. The 3.0 OS has so many new features, which we’ve discussed earlier, but unfortunately many iPhone users aren’t aware of them.

Cydia is a well known installer on iPhone and iPod Touch which allows us to install new applications on the device. Due to lack of attention and knowledge, many iPhone users installed it from thebigboss repository on July 18th and now they have started reporting Cydia crashing issue in various iPhone help forums and communities.

The bigboss team has found the solution for this issue and they have explained it on their blog -

For 10 minutes on July 18th a corrupted packages file was posted. If you loaded Cydia during that 10 minute period, your packages file became corrupted. This subsequently causes Cydia to crash each time you use it.

Steps to Fix Cydia Crashing Issue in iPhone 3.0 Firmware

For Windows OS:

  1. Download Clearcydialistcache tool [.NET framework must be installed]
  2. Unzip all files.
  3. Run ClearCydiaListCache.exe file and connect your device to your PC.
  4. Click the button to start the fix.
  5. A confirmation screen will appear shortly when it has finished.

For Mac OS:

  1. Download DiskAid tool from here – http://www.digidna.net/diskaid/download.php
  2. Connect your device to the computer.
  3. Go to the following path – /private/var/lib/apt/lists
  4. Delete all files except for the Partial folder.
  5. Start the Cydia again.

Please note that this is not a fix for all Cydia issues. It only works for corrupted packages file which was loaded on July 18th.

    This worked BEAUTIFULLY!
I just downloaded it, extracted, plugged in my ipod, ran it, and it finished in less than 10 seconds. I started up Cydia, and low and behold, it hasn’t crashed for at least 5 minutes
That’s an improvement over 10-30 seconds
Thank you for this great tool, and I’ll recommend it to anyone who has problems.

I accidently deleted the lists folder while using DiskAid
Restarted cydia, still crashes (included empty folder lists>partial)
Can someone help what to do ?
My all programs/app are intact and unaffected

    A good suggestion:
Use Redsn0w to jailbreak 3.0, and use Cydia for Installous, but Icy and Rock for everything else. (You install Rock through Icy)

That way you don’t have to worry about Cydia being a crazy biznitch.

I know it is an old one BUT if this happens I also accidently deleted the lists folder while using DiskAid

    Just create new folder
/private/var/lib/apt/lists and /private/var/lib/apt/lists/partial than start cydia … it will update itself and will work again!
