Guide to root HTC EVO 4G

HTC EVO 4G, the first 4G phone, is now available for US users. Sprint has officially launched the smart phone for $199 with a $100 mail-in-rebate, new contract, and premium data plan.

HTC EVO 4G has some of the best features as compared to other mobile phones. There are many people who have bought the EVO phone and want to root it. Well, here’s an easy guide to root your phone.

Guide to root HTC EVO 4G

Requirements:

  • HTC EVO 4G Phone
  • PC36IMG.zip
  • evorecovery

Steps to follow:

1. Download above mentioned files on your desktop.

2. Connect HTC EVO 4G to the PC.

3. Copy PC36IMG.zip file and paste it in the root directory of your phone.

4. Turn off the device.

5. Hold ‘Volume Down’ button and reboot the phone. Don’t remove your finger from Volume Down button until you see a white boot loader screen on HTC EVO 4G.

6. Boot loader will automatically scan SD card to find out PC36IMG.zip file.

7. After successful scanning, it will show a list of images in the zip. Simply select ‘Yes’ when it asks to flash.

8. If the process is completed properly, you’ll be asked to reboot the phone. Select ‘Yes’.

9. Woot! You’ve got a rooted phone.

10. Rename the PC36IMG.zip file to root-PC36IMG.zip.

In case you want to flash the recovery image, follow the given steps below.

How to flash the recovery image?

1. Download evorecovery file from above link and extract it on your desktop.

2. Open Command Prompt (Windows OS) with administrator rights.

3. Go to the directory of extracted file.

4. Type adb-windows.exe reboot recovery and press ‘Enter’.

5. Now, you’re phone should be in the recovery mode.

6. Run recovery-windows.bat file as administrator.

7. Done! Create a Nandroid backup and reboot the phone.
