In Google I/O 2011 today, Google team has made some major announcements for Android community. If you have missed the keynote earlier, read the following highlights of Google I/O event.
Important Highlights of Google I/O 2011
- 100 Million Activations – Google has recorded over 100 million activations of Android devices.
- 200,000 Android Apps – Since last few years Apple has dominated the world of mobile applications, and now Google’s Android OS is knocking hard on the doors with 200,000 apps in the Android Market.

- Android 3.1 and Android Market for Google TV – Similar to iOS, Google is bringing one mobile operating system to all the devices. Google TV will get an Android update, Android 3.1 Honeycomb, which will open Android Market for the relatively new platform. Other Android 3.1 compatible products will soon receive this update through OTA technology.

- Ice Cream Sandwich – The new desert is lined up for the next Android update. Google today unveiled the official logo of its upcoming OS.

- Movie Rentals – Again similar to Apple’s iOS, Google has decided to offer movies in Android Market. Earlier users were allowed to download Apps and Book from the application store. Now, users can also rent a movie for one month on mobile phones or tablet devices.

- Google Music (beta) – Entire tech industry was waiting for this announcement today, and finally Google announced it in I/O event. The Google Music beta is currently available for US residents at absolutely no cost, but later on you will have to pay few bucks to enjoy this new service. Check Google Music here – music.google.com

- Google also showcased Android Open Accessories and Android at Home protocol.

Last but certainly not the least, Google and Samsung will giveaway Samsung Galaxy S Tab 10.1” to 5000 attendees of Google I/O event.
