How to Change Windows Vista Power Button to Shut Down?

When you press Windows Vista Power Button on the start menu, your computer goes into sleep mode. This is really annoying and not so useful feature but you can make it useful by turning Windows Vista Power Button to Shut Down Button. You can configure some settings in power setting panel to use Windows Vista Power Button as Shut Down Button.

Here’s quick tutorial to change the Windows Vista Power Button to shut down:

1.    Open the Run dialog box (Windows + R), type cmd and hit enter.
2.    Command prompt window will open, type “powercfg.cpl,1”command  and press enter again.
3.    Following dialog box will open (You can also get it from control panel -> Power Options-> Change Plan Settings -> Change Advanced Power Settings).Search “Power buttons and lid” in power options.

4.    Select the “Start menu power button “and then select “Shut Down” option from the list.
5.    Click on apply and press ok.

Now you can use Windows Vista Power Button as a Shut Down instead of Sleep. As there are three options available, you can change power button to Sleep, Hibernate or Shut Down.
