How to disable System Restore in Windows 7?

Windows 7 is made to be hugely user supportive. This adds to the System Restore function which we have been seeing from the Windows XP days. System Restore is actually a Windows function, which lets you backup your Windows installation data and settings of the moment and whenever you feel like reverting back to those moment settings, you can restore your full computer. It is very helpful if your computer meets a crash or malfunction.

Now to make this magic happen, Windows makes an image sort of thing of the whole installation. There was a manual option for this in previous versions of Windows. But with the Windows 7, Microsoft did make its function automatic by default.

Windows 7 automatically makes images of your whole installation at a time period. The backup image is, of course, very large in size and is stored on the hard disk itself. This takes away a lot of space on your computer.

The System Restore feature is good but if you are a power user and make too many changes every month on your computer like new software, new files etc., then this restore thing can cog your space. To get rid of this, you can simply disable this function and save space on your Windows 7 machine.

For this, first open Control Panel and then select “System and Security” option.

Next, select the System title option as shown in the screenshot below.

In the System, select System protection from the side panel menu.

A new dialog box will appear and there will be option showing drives as in the screenshot below. Select C: from it and click the Configure button below.

In the new dialog box that pops up, select the option to Turn off System protection. Also drag the Max Usage option to minimum. Select OK. A pop-up will appear asking to confirm the selection. Choose yes to the changes. Done!

You have now successfully disabled the System Restore in Windows 7 and have saved a lot of space. All previous images except the latest will be deleted. You can also make new restore points whenever you want. Hope you did the steps right.

Note: System Restore Disabling is for power Windows users and we take no guarantee of any harm to your installation though there won’t be any happening. ;)
