How to Fix Windows 7 Build 7057 Desktop.ini Bug?


Windows 7 Builds are not the end products of Windows 7 operating system, as Microsoft developers are still experimenting on certain features and testing them through various processes.

Windows 7 Build 7057 got leaked few days back, which has more features compared to other Windows 7 Builds. Although it has extra features, you may find bugs and errors in them.

Notepad is a basic text editor in Windows operating system and also available in Windows 7 Build 7057. However, it gives a weird error when someone starts the operating system. If you are using Windows 7 Build 7057 then you might have noticed that notepad opens on every boot up with following code in it:

[.ShellClassInfo]
LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21787

It happens due to a bug which opens desktop.ini file in notepad window. One can solve this problem by deleting desktop.ini file from the startup folder. Here’s the quick tutorial to fix notepad issue in Windows 7 Build 7057.

  1. Open “Windows Explorer”.
  2. Go to “Folder and Search” option from “Organize“.
  3. Select “View” tab and Click on “Hidden files and folders” from Advanced settings.
  4. Click on “Show hidden files, folders and drives.”.
  5. Scroll down and Uncheck Hide protected operating system files. Click on OK.
  6. Find out C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.
  7. Delete desktop.ini file from the folder.
  8. That’s it! Now you won’t face any trouble with desktop.ini file.
