According to the rising complains and reports, some Indian internet service providers seem to have blocked certain file sharing websites. Many users of Airtel, MTNL and other broadband services have reported that they are not being able to access some of the top file sharing websites on the internet.
It is speculated that this step of blocking those websites is initiated by Indian Government. A screenshot provided by Airtel Broadband user Sunny Chahal says that the website is blocked by the order of Department of Telecom.

Some of the websites that seem to be blocked are:
- RapidShare.com
- Mediafire.com
- MegaUpload.com
- Hotfile.com
- SendSpace.com
- Fileserve.com
- MegaVideo.com
- VideoBB.com
- Novamov.com
- Movshare.net
- Filesonic.com
While all private and semi-privateĀ ISPs have blocked these websites, the government-owned BSNL is not blocking any of the websites at the moment. Some people say it is because of the routing issues between different ISPs in India, but according to the message displayed indicates something related to the Government. It can be a step from Indian Government to bring down illegal file and media sharing online.
Right now, there has been no official announcement made by any ISP or the Department of Telecom itself on why these sites are not accessible from last 24 hours. For people who are affected, try using proxy servers to download from the sites for time being.
