Apple has been testing its iOS software to resolve the battery life issue, and now it has come up with another Beta release, iOS 5.1 Beta Build 9B5117b, to improve certain things in the firmware.
Although we’re not really sure whether the iOS 5.1 Beta fixes the issue, it is being said that the Cupertino folks have tweaked their software to avoid the battery draining in iDevices. The new firmware has been seeded to the official developers and developers can test it on the following devices -
- iPad 2 Wi-Fi
- iPad 2 3G GSM & CDMA
- iPad First Generation (Both models)
- iPhone 4S
- iPhone 4 GSM & CDMA
- iPhone 3GS
- iPod Touch 4G
- iPod Touch 3G

If you have an access to the Apple’s developer account, you can directly download iOS 5.1 Beta from the link given at the end of this post. In case you don’t have the account, you will need to sign up for Apple’s Developer Program.
For those who want to test the firmware, please note that Apple has not mentioned anything regarding the battery life bug fix in the change log of iOS software. So, if you think this firmware will help improve the battery life of your device, you would not get the desired results. Also, it is still in its Beta phase, and it needs to be tested before an end user can try it on the device.
