iPhone OS 4.0 Announced at Apple Event


Multitasking As expected, Apple event started off with CEO Steve Jobs’ keynote where he talked about iPad and its early sales. On the launch day, Apple sold 300K iPads and till now they have sold over 450K iPads in the US.

In iPhone  4.0 event, Apple team announced that there will be over 100 new features and 1500 new APIs in the new mobile OS. Steve Jobs and his members demonstrated 7 amazing features which will be included in iPhone OS 4.0.

Features of iPhone OS 4.0

  • Multitasking
  • Folders
  • Unified Inbox
  • iBooks
  • Enterprise
  • Game Center
  • iAd

These are some of the attractive features in new iPhone OS. Apart from that it will also feature Bluetooth keyboard, background locations, local notifications, playlists, tap to focus video, places in photos and much more.

Most important thing about this firmware is that only iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 3G will get the full support. Multitasking feature requires more resources and old devices are not capable of handling such high load.

Download iPhone 4.0 SDK

The developer preview version of iPhone 4.0 and SDK will be available at iPhone dev center.

iPhone OS 4.0 for iPhone and iPod Touch will be released in the summer. iPad version of this OS will be available in this fall. The new iPhone 4G/HD will get iPhone 4.0 and Apple is expected to launch the device at WWDC 2010.

Update: iPhone OS 4 Beta 2 is now available for developers.
