Apple yesterday released the iPhone OS 4 Beta 3 for developers. The new beta update brings with it some welcome changes to the iPhone OS 4. First and foremost, the Beta 3 update of the iPhone OS 4 includes transferring of files via USB to the iPhone. Users need to use iTunes to transfer files to and fro from the iPhone. About time Apple added this functionality to the iPhone, isn’t it?
Another welcome change in the new Beta is the ability to lock the orientation of the device. To lock the orientation of the device, users need to open up the task switcher interface and then swipe to the left and tap on the Portrait Lock icon.
There is also a new iPod widget in the Beta update. When the iPod is running in the background, and the user opens up the task switcher, he will be shown a list of useful media controls.
The way a user kills an application has also changed in the new beta update. Users now simply press and hold the icon of the application they want to close, and they will be allowed to close any other application they want, by tapping their respective red kill switch. This process is now similar to uninstalling applications on the iPhone OS.
These are the major changes of the iPhone OS 4 Beta 3. Some minor changes include the background of the multitasking UI of the iPhone OS 4 matching that of the iPad web-browser etcetera.
iPhone OS 4 is only available for official developers. However, end users can also try it without providing UDID.
Note: If you are using unlocked iPhone, don’t upgrade to iPhone OS 4 Beta. You will lose your jailbreak and unlock.
