Nokia N900 Software Update v1.2 Released

Nokia has just out a new firmware update for its current flagship handset – the Nokia N900. The Nokia N900 has a 3.5-inch resistive screen, and has a QWERTY keyboard in a sliding form-factor. The N900 is the lone Nokia handset to run on the Maemo OS. The new firmware update is numbered v1.2.

The new firmware update brings some improvements in the email department. Users can now decline or accept a Facebook event invitation right from within an email. The default IM client of the N900 now also supports Facebook Chat. The menu system of the device has also been changed to make it more customizable.

The major improvement in this new firmware update is the ability to make video calls. Users can now make video calls with the front facing camera of the N900. The default web browser of the N900 now also supports portrait mode for browsing. The Ovi Maps for the N900 also got some UI updates.

The new firmware update packs with it tons of new 3D games like Jurassic 3D Rollercoaster, Zen-bound, Angry Birds, Sygic, Kroll, Weatherbug, and GoGadget. The above mentioned games will also be available on the Ovi Store starting next week.

This was the good news for the N900 users. Now, the bad news is that Nokia has said that they will not be offering “a full scale commercial MeeGo upgrade on the N900″. Nevertheless, Nokia has promised to continue rolling out firmware updates for the N900 in the future.
