Nokia Unveils Symbian^3 Based Nokia N8


N8 Nokia today officially unveiled its next flagship phone – the Nokia N8. The Nokia N8 will be the first phone in the market running S^3 (Symbian ^3). It also supports Qt cross-platform apps and UI framework. This will allow simultaneous development of applications for the MeeGo and Symbian platform.

The Nokia N8 features a 3.5 inch Capacitive screen with an nHD (360*640) resolution. The Nokia N8 has 16GB of Internal storage and also supports microSD cards of up to 32GB. The device has all the connectivity fields duly covered including support for Wi-Fi n.

The phone supports five of the available 3G bands – 850/900/1700/1900/2100. The device will come with free voice guided navigation thanks to Ovi Maps. The Nokia N8 has a 680MHz ARM processor, along with 512MB of ROM and 256MB of RAM. The N8 will also be the first device to feature a mini HDMI port for TV-out. The battery life of the device is also impressive, thanks to a 1200mAh battery.

The main selling point of the phone will definitely be its camera. The phone has a 12MP camera, and features 720p video recording @ 25 frames per second. The camera has a Carl Zeiss optics and a xenon flash. The camera angle is 28mm wide, and the sensor is 1/1.9” long. The sensor size of the camera is the largest ever found in a GSM phone. The phone is capable of playing back 720p HD videos, and also has some inbuilt video editing tools.

Nokia even released some “untouched” camera samples from the Nokia N8 12MP cam. The camera samples definitely look impressive for a phone which is still not running the final version of the software. Here is a link to the pictures. The Nokia N8 will be available by the end of the third quarter, this year. The expected pricing of the device will be around 370 Euros before taxes and subsidies.
