PlayStation Phone – Features and Specifications

The much talked and hyped PlayStation Phone looks real. Engadget was the first to report about it with some leaked pictures. At first, many people thought it is another fake attempt to make the PSP alike phone, but then recent activities from the company Sony Ericsson verified to a broader extend that this phone exists.

Codenamed as Zeus, the PlayStation Phone build is very much similar to the Sony Ericsson’s Xperia series of phones. But the major addition which makes it a PSP alike phone, is a slider gaming controller. The slider sports two controllers and a multi-touch touchpad. Getting on to the internal hardware, the PlayStation Phone has got a Qualcomm MSM8655 Snapdragon 1 GHz processor and 512 MB RAM. The ROM is expected to be anywhere between 512 MB and 1 GB. The phone has got a Micro SD card slot and will come bundled with an 8 GB card. It can be expandable up to 32 GB.

The PlayStation Phone, surprisingly runs on Android. The first prototype was found running Gingerbread but later news suggested that it will release with stock Android 2.2. Being a gaming phone, choosing Android as the platform must had been very hard. But recent release of Android games like the Angry Birds, EA FIFA, Assassin Creed and other famous titles do make some sense about gaming on Android. With PlayStation Phone, the frame may get wider and who knows, some nice Android game titles might come out.

Now what we have to look out is, whether this Android powered gaming phone takes mobile gaming to new levels like the iOS Game Center. Or else, will it be a failure flagship for Sony Ericsson like Nokia’s N-Gage attempts.
