Sony CEO hints New Camera in iPhone 5

Sir Howard Stringer

Will Apple launch iPhone 5 with new camera? Maybe yes!

Sony’s CEO,  Sir Howard Stringer has apparently revealed that iPhone 5, Apple’s fifth generation iPhone, will have a new camera. While discussing Japan’s tragedy with Walt Mossberg, he said that their camera image sensor manufacturing plant in Sendai has affected due to the recent Tsunami, and this natural calamity has caused delay in entire manufacturing process.

According to him, these image sensors were supposed to be used in iPhone 5 camera.

Paraphrased: “Our best sensor technology is built in one of the (tsunami) affected factories.  Those go to Apple for their iPhones…or iPads.  Isn’t that something?  They buy our best sensors from us?”

Interestingly, Apple has never bought image sensors from Sony. The company has always preferred OmniVision over other manufacturers. But, we can’t deny the fact that Sony CEO has publicly said something about Apple’s iPhone. This also means that iPhone 5 launch might not happen during the WWDC 2011 event, which is scheduled between June 6th and June 10th.
