Steve Jobs takes Medical Leave; Tim Cook to handle Apple’s Operations

When Steve Jobs didn’t arrive at Verizon iPhone 4 launch event, many Apple enthusiasts wanted to know the reason behind his absence.

Steve Jobs

Yesterday, we received a news regarding Jobs’ health issues. Steve Jobs had requested a medical leave of absence from the company and now the leave has been granted by Apple’s board of directors. This obviously means that Apple’s CEO is not fully recovered from earlier health issues.

In his absence, Tim Cook will manage the day to day operations at Apple, and Steve Jobs will be helping the company in important strategic decisions.

Here’s the e-mail that Steve Jobs sent to Apple employees -

Team,

At my request, the board of directors has granted me a medical leave of absence so I can focus on my health. I will continue as CEO and be involved in major strategic decisions for the company.

I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for all of Apple’s day to day operations. I have great confidence that Tim and the rest of the executive management team will do a terrific job executing the exciting plans we have in place for 2011.

I love Apple so much and hope to be back as soon as I can. In the meantime, my family and I would deeply appreciate respect for our privacy.

Steve

We don’t know the exact reason for his medical leave, but we do hope that he recovers quickly from his health problems.

We’d like to see you on the stage again, sir! Smile
