As we know, the redsnOw unlocking software is now available for Windows and Mac users. It works fine for iPhone 2G and iPhone 3G, but surprisingly it doesn’t work for iPhone 3G S.

Now, you can jailbreak & unlock iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, iPod Touch and iPod Touch 2G with the help of latest redsnOw tool. You don’t have to wait for QuickPWN unlocking tool to unlock your phone.

Here’s how you can use redsnOw to jailbreak and unlock iPhone 2G. Before using following guide just read the instructions given by iPhone Dev team.

Guide to Jailbreak and Unlock iPhone 2G OS 3.0 with RedsnOw

Requirements:

• RedsnOw 0.7.1 for Windows | RedsnOw 0.7 for Mac
• iPhone 3.0 for iPhone 2G
• Bootloader Files – bl39.bin & bl46.bin

Steps to follow:

1. Create a folder on desktop and name it as ‘RedsnOw’. Move all downloaded files to this folder.

2. Connect iPhone to computer with the help of USB.

3. Launch RedsnOw software and browse appropriate .ipsw firmware file from the folder. Click on Next to continue.

4.  If you want to unlock the iPhone then select ‘Unlock’ option from the window. Also select ‘Install Cydia’. Again click on Next to continue.

5. A bootloader window will appear, perform the instructions given on the screen.

6. Once you finish with above process switch off the device and click Next to start with DFU mode.

7. Put your phone in DFU mode by using screen instructions.

8. The redsnOw tool will automatically start the unlocking procedure. Just wait for few minutes to get an unlocked device.

Once again iPhone Dev team has released an unlocking software, RedsnOw for iPhone users. The redsnOw is now available for Windows and Mac OS X.

The redsnOw has similar functionality to QuickPWN and windows users can also use it to jailbreak and unlock their devices.

As usual, Dev team has stated some important guidelines on their blog. Here’s an excerpt from their blog post -

If you want to build custom firmware files with more flexibility it is suggested that you use ‘PwnageTool’ on Mac OS X.

1. GOLDEN RULE: If you are using a 3G iPhone with yellowsn0w and rely on yellowsn0w to obtain cellular service, then you should NOT use redsn0w right now. Ultrasn0w (the 3G carrier unlock) is not included with this release and therefore your baseband will be locked and unable to use an operator other than the official one it was bought for. UltraSn0w will be released via APT (cydia and icy) soon. If you have an original iPhone (1st generation) then 3.0 carrier unlock works with this redsn0w release.
2. Yellowsn0w in its current form will NOT work with the baseband version that is present in the 3.0 update, you will need Ultrasn0w, which will be released sometime soon, Ultrasn0w will work with all iPhone 3G models (but not 3GS), even ones that were previously unlockable, Ultrasn0w (when available) will be released via APT (this means you will be able to get it via Cydia or Icy).
3. Please read all parts of this post before downloading and using these tools.
4. Read items 1, 2 and 3 again and again.
5. At the bottom of this post are the bittorrent files for the latest version of redsn0w.
6. This app is suitable for the recent 3.0 release
7. redsn0w will NOT work for the iPhone 3GS.
8. redsn0w WILL work for Original iPhone (1st Generation), Original iPod touch, iPod touch 2G and the iPhone 3G (not the iPhone 3GS).

To use redsn0w simply upgrade the device in iTunes to firmware version 3.0 and run redsn0w to activate and jailbreak the device (and if you are using an original iPhone 2G, it will unlock it too!)

The iPhone 3.0 firmware has created a lot of buzz around the world. Apple’s features packed firmware has been praised by many iPhone and iPod Touch users.

The only thing annoys during the entire iPhone 3.0 upgrade process is the weird error message! The very high load on Apple’s servers is the main reason behind this error message. Guide to Jailbreak iPhone 3G OS 3.0 with QuickPWN

Requirements:

• QuickPWN 3.0 (Link coming soon.)
• iTunes 8.2
• iPhone 3.0 for iPhone 3G

Steps to follow:

1. Install iTunes 8.2 on your computer.

2. Create a folder QuickPWN 3.0 on your desktop and move iPhone 3.0 firmware file & QuickPWN 3.0 (unzipped) software to it.

3. Connect iPhone to the computer and start iTunes. It will automatically detect your iPhone. Select the appropriate device from the list.

4. Now hold the ‘Shift’ key and click on ‘Restore’ button. Wait for iTunes to update your iPhone to iPhone 3.0 firmware.

5. Once you have done with it launch QuickPWN 3.0 from the same folder. Select the firmware from QuickPWN and click on ‘Open’ button.

6. If the .ipsw file is correct, QuickPWN will indicate blue arrow to move ahead.

7. As per your choice, select Cydia, Installer or Replace Boot Logos and just click on the arrow button.

8. QuickPWN 3.0 will display a message to confirm your iPhone 3G is still connected via USB cable before continuing. Click the arrow button to continue.

9. Your iPhone will be moved to recovery mode. In recovery mode, you will have to perform two instructions – Hold the Home button for 5 seconds & Hold the Home and Power buttons for 10 seconds

10. Release the Power button, but keep holding the Home button until your iPhone is in DFU mode.

11. If everything goes smoothly, QuickPWN 3.0 will detect your iPhone in DFU mode and it will begin with jailbreaking.

12. QuickPWN 3.0 will prompt the message that process was successful.

That’s it! Enjoy the iPhone 3.0 firmware on your iPhone.

Two days back Apple team released firmware update 2.2.1 for iPhone and iPod Touch. But Dev Team has strictly warned iPhone 3G users and suggested not to update their iPhones with new firmware. If you update iPhone 3G with 2.2.1 firmware then you won’t be able to unlock it with yellowsnOw.

However, iPhone 2G and iPod Touch users can update their iPhones to firmware version 2.2.1. There is no problem in unlocking these devices with new firmware update. You can use same method that you have used in the past updates to unlock iPhone.

You might need jailbreaking tools to jailbreak your iPhone and iPod Touch. It is recommended to use QuickPWN 2.2.5 or PwnageTool 2.2.5. Currently these tools are available for Mac users only, hence Windows users have to wait.

Dev team has given an awesome new year gift to all iPhone 3G users by releasing much awaited software, yellowsn0w. One month back, Apple team released new firmware 2.2 for iPhone, but there was no unlocking software available for iPhone 3G. Many iPhone 3G users had to wait for Dev Team’s unlocking software so that they can update their iPhones to firmware 2.2.

As Dev team said on their blog, this software unlock works with baseband 02.28.00, which comes with latest firmware 2.2. To update your iPhone 3G, you should have latest version of iTunes and QuickPwn.You can download them from following links.

Here’s a quick tutorial to unlock iPhone 3G Firmware 2.2.

Note:

Before we move ahead with tutorial, please upgrade your iPhone 3G to firmware 2.2 i.e. 02.28.00 baseband modem firmware. Another important thing is your iPhone must have jailbroken with QuickPwn.

Firstly, you will need to install yellowsnOw. Follow the given steps.

• Open Cydia installer from iPhone.
• Select ‘Manage’ from bottom and select ‘Sources’.
• Go to ‘Edit’, press ‘Add’ option from left top.
• Insert this URL [http://apt9.yellowsn0w.com/] and select ‘Add Source’
• Press ‘Return to Cydia’.
• Now select ‘Done’ from right top.

If everything goes smoothly, you should see yellowsn0w package in Cydia. Now, get ready to unlock iPhone 3G firmware with yellowsnOw.

1. Launch Cydia again and select http://apt9.yellowsn0w.com/ from ‘Entered by User’.
2. Select yellowsnOw from the list of packages and install it.
3. After successful completion of installation process, select ‘Return to Cydia’.
4. Restart iPhone using ‘Power’ button.
5. Voila! Your iPhone 3G is unlocked.

If you find any problem with yellowsnOw, you can uninstall it or try to remove it from Cydia and reboot iPhone. After that you’ll have service with locked carrier. Still have problem with it? Well, just mention it in the comment section below and we will try to find a solution.
