Comex’s Untethered Exploit Patched in iOS 4.3.1; Jailbreak Update Delayed

New dram begins in the iPhone community! Comex, iPhone hacker, has updated everyone with few unexpected tweets. According to him, Apple team has patched his untethered jailbreak exploit in iOS 4.3.1 firmware update.

His recent tweets on Twitter -

As noticed by @0naj, my kernel exploit was fixed in 4.3.1.

I try not to be paranoid, but it is really hard to explain this as anything but a leak.

The funny thing is that my “new” kernel exploit is actually the kernel exploit used by JailbreakMe 2.0. It was never properly fixed.

It stayed there from 4.0.2 through 4.3, but was magically found in time for 4.3.1. well, go go @MuscleNerd and @i0n1c I guess

Now, jailbreakers and unlockers will have to look out for another jailbreak tool, which will probably come out from Chronic Dev team. We can’t expect anything from GeoHot, as he is busy with his legal battle. Other jailbreak tool developers were also waiting for Comex, and now it looks like there won’t be any untethered jailbreak tool for iOS 4.3.1 firmware.

If you would like to get a quick jailbreak, you can always use Sn0wbreeze or PwnageTool bundles to bring tethered jailbreak on iOS 4.3.1 devices. As far as iPhone unlock is concerned, iPhone Dev team members are trying their best to develop and update Ultrasn0w tool with new baseband support. More details here.

Update 1: Stefan Esser has delivered his untethered exploit to iPhone Dev Team.

Update 2: Ultrasn0w 1.2.1 unlock for iOS 4.3.1.
