The fourth quarter reports are out and have stunned everyone in the tech industry. ZTE, the Chinese manufacturer, has emerged as one of the top 5 cellphone makers in the world. According to the latest IDC report, ZTE has shipped over 16.8 million phones in the fourth quarter of 2010, which helped them gain 4.2% overall market share in the same quarter.
The Chinese manufacturer has shockingly increased its market share by 76.8% in comparison with 2009’s Q4 results. With these amazing results from ZTE, big companies like Apple and RIM have been displaced from their Q3 2010 rankings. Apple sold 16.2 million mobile phone devices in last quarter and managed to capture 4.0% market share.

These results prove one thing for sure that Android platform will play a major role in upcoming years. Nokia has been dominating mobile phone industry for so many years, but it has started facing tough competition from iOS and Android based phones.
Apple’s future in mobile industry also depends on how they work on their platform. This year, iPhone 4 CDMA and iPhone 5 will be the key players for Cupertino guys, and these two devices will eventually decide Apple’s position in the world market.
Samsung, LG will continue their Android and Windows Phone 7 lineups for 2011, which means they would be on the safer side of this competition.
As far as ZTE is concerned, it’s a growing brand, and we hope that they perform similarly in 2011 as well.
