Toyota's only true four-wheel drive SUV, the 2006 4Runner has a unique combination of hardware and software predisposed to off-road adventure. It's a tough and reliable vehicle that repeats Good and Excellent IntelliChoice value ratings year after year. It's not the best vehicle for soft roading--it's no Jeep or Land Rover--but it's a solid alternative.

Its svelte shape disguises a rugged body-on-frame construction and powerful engines. Toyota's double-wishbone independent front suspension and four-link rear axle deliver creamy Camry refinement on tarmac and help this SUV negotiate alpine trails with ease. A cargo-hold that can accommodate a full-size third row seat and a split-folding rear seat adds flexibility to the mix. The 4Runner's ride height and clear visibility give it a distinct advantage over rivals in tight parking lots and traffic, too.
