A good makeup sponge can make all the difference when it comes to applying and blending your base products. But the beauty industry is full of options, so we set out to find the best ones for a variety of applications. To do this, we tested the original Beautyblender (heralded by editors as the GOAT) along with products from NYX, Milk Makeup, Fenty, e.l.f. Cosmetics, L'Oreal Paris and Juno & Co.

Our final picks were based on several factors, including: texture, flexibility, how they hold up wet or dry, and how easy they are to clean. We also looked at their ability to bounce and stipple on the skin, as well as how they handled different types of foundation formulas.

Ultimately, Fenty's Precision 100 was the clear winner of our precisso beauty blending sponge review. Its unique shape, which is a bit like an egg with one flat side and a narrow point, makes it perfect for getting into smaller areas such as around the nose and mouth. The non-latex, hypoallergenic and cruelty-free sponge has a soft, bouncy feel and is infused with purifying bamboo charcoal to protect against any toxins or impurities that might get into your product as you apply it. Plus, it's pretty affordable, which is always a plus. The sponge is latex-free and made with a proprietary blend of materials that make it water-resistant. It's also a little larger than the other products we tested, but that works in its favor for a smoother, more seamless second-skin finish.
