artie 3000 review

Learn to code and get drawing with this robot that puts the art in STEAM. It’s easy to program Artie 3000 to draw fun designs using a drag and drop visual programming interface on a laptop, tablet or computer. It comes with preprogrammed shapes, games and art for coloring that kids can use right away or they can create their own codes and test them in the software’s drawing simulator before sending Artie off to do what they’ve programmed him to do.

This cute little robot from Educational Insights puts the “A” in STEM by adding art to science while making coding relatable and fun for kids. It connects to a laptop, desktop, tablet or smartphone over wifi and uses a free app to give Artie instructions. Younger kids will love how simple it is to use the drag and drop command blocks to control the robot; more advanced coders can go beyond this UI and delve into additional coding applications such as Blockly, Snap!, Python and JavaScript.

The artie 3000 review from our testers was positive overall with the kids finding it fun and engaging. They liked that they could imagine their own coding programs and then watch the robot execute them and enjoy admiring the finished drawing once it had completed its task. They also really liked the fact that they could use a range of pens (as long as they are washable) rather than having to stick with one set.
