Product Details

Asus's GL502VT packs a punch for its sub-1,000 dollar price tag. With a 6th-gen Core i7-6700HQ processor, GeForce GTX 970M GPU and 12GB of RAM, this is a laptop built for gaming.

Screen & Keyboard

The 15.6-inch GL502VT has a Full HD display that offers plenty of visual punch. The matte panel registers a strong 109 percent sRGB color gamut. This is a good performance for a laptop in this price range, though it's not quite up there with the Aorus X5S or Blade (120 and 111, respectively) or the Alienware 15's 115 percent.

Battery Life

Despite its power-hungry components, the Strix lasted an impressive 5 hours and 56 minutes on our battery test that measures continuous web surfing over Wi-Fi. That's good for a gaming notebook and better than the category average, which was 5:52.

Surface Temperatures

The GL502VT is a pretty thin notebook, but its short heat pipes make it easy for surface temperatures to develop on the front and back. This is especially true when running multiple benchmarks at once. When idling, the front half of the laptop remained cool while the rear half grew noticeably warmer by about 8 C on the top and 10 C on the bottom.

The GL502VT features an ROG-branded scissor-switch keyboard that's comfortable to type on, as well as responsive during multiplayer battles. The WASD keys have also been given a flamboyant treatment, featuring red highlights that match the bright red ROG logo on the lid.
