ASUS X205t Review

The asus x205t is an entry-level netbook that offers a proper chiclet keyboard, portability, a bright display, category-leading battery life and snappy performance all encased in an elegant and sleek package. It’s one of the best budget Windows 8 laptops we have reviewed and a solid choice for anyone on a tight budget who still wants to use their computer to do serious work and enjoy the internet.

It’s an incredibly lightweight and compact device that weighs less than 2.4 pounds, making it perfect for travel, as well as for using on the go. It features an 11.6-inch LED screen with a 1366x768 resolution.

This is an entry-level display resolution that most netbooks use these days, and while it doesn’t deliver picture sharpness and space on the screen like Full HD or higher resolution laptop displays do, it does offer wide viewing angles that are a welcome addition to any laptop. Its 217 nits of maximum brightness is quite good for the ultraportable class and is a huge improvement over the HP Stream 11’s 165 nits, but it falls behind the Acer Chromebook C720P’s 183 nits.

A high contrast rate is a big deal for any monitor, and the X205TA does a pretty good job of it. We measured a contrast ratio of 684:1, which tops the HP Stream 11’s 612:1 and the Acer C720P’s 492:1.

Color Accuracy is a concern, too, but it’s surprisingly strong for this budget class. The X205TA recreated 68.2 percent of the sRGB color gamut.
