ACC offers both poly back and mass backing on their carpet kits. The standard backing that comes with the kit is a lightweight polyethylene material that helps the carpet hold its shape after it's pressed into the floor pan mold. It doesn't add any heat or sound deadening to your vehicle. Mass backing is a 45 mil layer of Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA) which provides added heat and sound deadening. It is heat bonded to the back of the carpet before it goes into the molding process.
Mass backing can be purchased with any Essex, 80/20 loop, or GM cut pile carpet kits. It can also be purchased with any woven nylon carpet kits that use the correct molds such as Grospoint, Daytona, or Trinidad.
Most customers recommend going with the upgraded mass backing option when replacing their car or truck carpet. The additional cost is worth the improved underfoot feel and added heat and sound deadening. Many customers report that the mass backing also makes it easier to install the new carpet, especially in older cars that have jute padding installed in the floor pan.
