Beijing-based artist and documentarian Cao Fei uses pop aesthetics and fantasy with documentary and social commentary to explore a world of new riches as China experiences rapid economic change. In this work, she captures the lives of nouveau riche businessmen, musicians, security guards, maids, manicurists and sex workers who inhabit a compartmentalized, alienating apartment complex in search for human connection. This film is a co-production between the Center for Asian American Media and Walking Iris Media.
