Cz Usa Drake Review

"Smallbore hunters, especially those who hunt grouse and quail in briars and thick brush, have been long waiting for a shotgun that doesn't feel like it was designed to be a showpiece."
— Dave Grass, Winnebago PF Chapter
The new cz usa drake is just such a gun. A bare-bones over/under, the Drake is available in 12 and 20 gauges with 28-inch barrels that feature a vent rib. A simple, single select trigger, manual tang safety and extractor operation round out the package. And a sleek Turkish walnut stock and pistol grip feature laser-cut checkering for a nonslip, firm hold. A full set of five flush interchangeable choke tubes is included.

Unlike many manufacturers, which save money by fitting 28-gauge barrels on a 20-gauge frame -- meaning the chamber is larger and requires more metal around it -- CZ has scaled the frames to the sized the gun. That means the 20-gauge Drake weighs just 6 pounds, 9 ounces. The 28-gauge model is a half-pound lighter.

The Drake over/under, imported from Turkey by CZ-USA, may be the best bang for the buck on the market today. Made by Huglu (pronounced Hoo-glu), one of Turkey's most respected gunmakers, the Drake has a quality finish and action, yet is easy on the wallet. And like all CZ-USA shotguns, the Drake has a warranty backed by an American company that stands behind it.
