del dotto wine review

With Christmas approaching it’s always nice to have a bottle of wine to take to a family dinner. Ideally it’s a bottle that will impress, something an oenophile can swoon over or one that will convert the wine newbie into a believer. For the latter it’s best to have something truly special that will leave them with a great memory.

A visit to del dotto is definitely an experience that won’t be forgotten. Their tasting room is a kaleidoscope of frescos, columns, Venetian marble, chandeliers and tiles. Not to mention Andrea Bocelli’s soaring (literally pumpingly loud) vocals that are piped into the caves and tasting room for all to hear.

Del Dotto is a Napa Valley winery that has become one of the hotter visitor sites in the region. Founded in 1988 by Dave Del Dotto they currently own and operate over 437 vineyard acres on 7 unique properties in Napa Valley and Sonoma County. They specialize in Bordeaux varietals but recently have started a Pinot Noir program as well.

The 2021 Sauvignon Blanc Rutherford is a beautiful bottling that offers tropical aromas including pineapple, mango and guava with a mouthfeel that is rich, rounded and lush. The vineyard blend includes grapes from both their Rutherford and their newest Oakville property along Highway 29 named Piazza del Dotto. The blending of different sites enables them to have control over the overall style of the wine while offering complexity and depth of flavor from a wide array of different wines and vineyards.
