This is a superb drill that makes a big splash for a very modest price. It has the power to cope with any job and has a range of features to suit the professional or DIYer alike. It comes with DeWalt's Tool Connect, which enables you to customize your tool and track its whereabouts via your smartphone. This feature isn't essential, but it adds a nice level of security to your tool.
The motor is brushless, which is great news for anyone wanting a durable and powerful cordless hammer drill. The DeWalt DCD796 also offers a number of different speed modes, which will allow you to choose the best one for your work. This DeWalt model also has an adjustable LED light to help you see what you're doing.
It was the fastest drill in our test for drilling and drove screws with aplomb. Driving ten 70 mm screws into some CLS timber was easy work and there was no kickback, which is excellent news for those doing a lot of driving. Drilling into 3 mm of steel plate was also a piece of cake. The hammer drill simply ate it up without fuss or complaint.
The only downside is that the DCD796 doesn't offer the same amount of torque as some of the other models in our shootout. That said, it still has a strong enough rating to comfortably compete with all the other hammer drills. It also has a very quiet noise level of just 79 dB, which is ideal for use in the home.
