Does Cyberpunk Have New Game Plus?

Cyberpunk is a popular sci-fi genre that takes place in a future heavily influenced by technology. The earliest cyberpunk works, like William Gibson’s Neuromancer and the short story Johnny Mnemonic, delved into the ways the emergence of technology could create an oppressive society. Cyberpunk influenced other works, including the film Blade Runner and many role-playing games.

The recent 2.0 update for Cyberpunk 2077 offered a wide range of changes, but New Game Plus wasn’t among them. Many players had hoped to use their weapons, gear, and upgrades in a new game file after clearing the main storyline and the expansion Phantom Liberty. Unfortunately, this isn’t possible without using a fan mod.

While the game does have some perks after you beat it, such as a respec system and a web of romance options, there’s no true NG+ mode. The closest thing is a mode called the Arasaka Tower DLC, which is available for a fee and allows you to retain your NCPD scanner hustles, Fixer gigs, and side missions prior to Nocturne OP55N1. This doesn’t reset those quests or reward you with any Iconic Weapons.

The lead level designer for Cyberpunk 2077 recently replied to a fan question on Twitter about this issue, saying that NG+ was something the developers considered but ultimately decided against because it would be “incredibly complex.” It may take some time, but there’s hope that a proper NG+ will appear at some point in the future.
