If you have ever dreamed of suiting up in SWAT gear and kicking down doors to nab criminal scum, door kickers switch is the game for you. However, it isn't quite what it seems at first glance. It's a 2D, top-down strategy war title with brutally realistic rules of engagement, which makes it difficult but ultimately rewarding.
Developed by KillHouse Games, Door Kickers is a tactical warfare game that puts you in charge of a S.W.A.T team on missions to neutralize terrorists, diffuse bombs and rescue hostages. It's a challenging, out-of-the-box thinking game where patience and lots of retries are necessary. Presented from a top-down perspective, each mission is broken up into 'planning' and 'live' phases. In the planning stage, you have time to plan a route for your squad, select equipment and assign them to specific actions like breaching doors or throwing flashbang grenades.
In the live phase, you can adjust your tactics on the fly using a quick-access wheel or by using the analogue stick to control your troopers as they move through their environment. You can also pause the action to take a closer look at your surroundings and even scout locations with spy cameras or use claw hammers to break down locks. The pixel art is very detailed with little touches like slight splashes of blood or rust on metal objects making for a highly immersive experience.
The game's complexity can make it a challenge at times, but the feeling of pulling off a perfect operation is indescribable. It's also a blast to play in local or online co-op, with each player able to contribute different skills and perspectives.
