With 'They Got Amnesia' French Montana proves that he can still stand out on his own.
The fourth studio album from Moroccan-American rapper French Montana is a spirited return from a rap icon. The project's swagger is unwavering, and its many A-list guests -- including John Legend, Rick Ross, Kodak Black, the late Pop Smoke, Lil Durk, Doja Cat, Saweetie, Ty Dolla $ign, 42 Dugg, Latto and Moneybagg Yo -- lend their talents with ease.
French's own skills are on full display, particularly on the raunchy 'Striptease'. He also keeps a string of strip club anthems up his sleeve, most notably on 'Handstand' with Doja and Saweetie. The playful beat and artists rapping about sexual content in similar cadences leave room for French to drive the record home with his own bars.
While the album is a little overlong with 22 tracks, most of the songs are solid. 'FMWGAB' and 'I Don't Really Care' are the album's biggest hits, but the lullaby 'Panicking' with Fivio Foreign is just as fire.
After a turbulent couple of years, French Montana returns to the spotlight with 'They Got Amnesia'. It's a brave comeback from a modern rap icon that re-asserts his role as one of 2k21's MVPs. From the swagger of 'Appreciate Everything' to the reflective 'Losing Weight', the CB leader delivers a powerful return that proves he can still stand out on his own.
