opus x magnum o review

Fuente Fuente Opus X Magnum O is a limited-production Gordito-sized cigar by the world’s most coveted premium cigar. Debuted in 1995, this 4 3/4” x 56 cigar was the first-ever Dominican puro (meaning the binder, filler, and wrapper leaves are all cultivated at the mineral rich Chateau de la Fuente farms). This revolutionary effort by Carlito Fuente and his family shook the cigar industry when it was introduced. It was the first of its kind and has maintained a legendary reputation nearly twenty years later.

Its scarcity and the elite hype around it has gained the cigar a cult following of true connoisseurs who will travel unheard-of distances, pay outrageous prices, and wait for this rare treat to hit their local shop. But there is another, more intangible reason why opus x maintains such elite status. It is the cigar’s taste.

The blend of the opus x cigar is crafted from a combination of vintage Dominican long filler and binder tobaccos encased under a secret wrapper. The result is a full-bodied yet smooth smoke that is complemented by a wide variety of flavors including leather, wood, nutmeg, nougat, and caramel. It is a fine accompaniment to a top-shelf scotch or bourbon but it stands alone as well.

Two limited-edition sets of aged Opus X cigars are now available to select retailers. Both the OpusX Story and Opus6 collections feature six rare cigars that are selected from the aging room by Fuente himself, each bearing a secondary band indicating the year they were rolled, in this case 2017.
