G-BOOM Bluetooth Speaker Review

If you’re in the market for a Bluetooth boombox that screams “Rappers Delight” at shoulder level and doesn't cost an arm and a leg, then you should definitely check out the G-Project G-BOOM. Developed by the same people behind the Soundfreaq speakers, the G-BOOM is an impressive looking speaker that sounds great at high volumes. It's loud enough to bring back memories of '80s boom boxes and is perfect for taking to a cabin or lake house so you can party with friends outside.

Unlike the rest of the speaker, the front of the G-BOOM is mostly taken up by a dark grey grill. That grill hides a pair of 1-inch tweeters set above a 3-inch midrange driver. Those speakers are flanked by two sound ports that help reinforce bass. There's also a rubber flap that covers the DC power input, a USB charging port, and a 3.5mm line input.

There's a large rubber-coated handle on top that connects to the rest of the M-shaped frame with metal pipes on each side. The bottom of the G-BOOM is covered in a protective elastomer base that helps keep it from sliding around on slick surfaces. A row of white-marked buttons near the top handle lets you control playback and switch through EQ presets. The buttons are easy to press and have a satisfying click, but the rubber surface they're on feels squishy and attracts dust.

Ultimately, though, it’s the G-BOOM's sound performance that sets it apart from everything else on the market. Its vocals come through crisp and clear without any tinniness, and the bass is deeper and more present than any speaker in this price range can hope to be.
