If you've been wanting to try out Gears of War 4, the multiplayer beta opens today and will run until May 1. Those who pre-order the Ultimate Edition or play Torchlight or Castlevania: Lords of Shadow at participating retailers like GAME will get early access codes.
The Coalition is reviving the iconic shooter series, this time 25 years after the Locust and Lambent are destroyed. It's set on the planet of Sera and focuses on JD Fenix, son of Marcus Fenix from the original trilogy. It's a brand new world with big cinematic shootouts and daddy issues.
Rod Fergusson, studio head at The Coalition, talks about the multiplayer beta for the Xbox One version of Gears 4. The team is making sure the multiplayer experience is great, focusing on new characters, weapons, maps and modes. You'll also be able to play with the new Dropshot, a weapon that launches a rocket-powered explosive drill bit that can wreak havoc on enemies hiding behind cover.
The Coalition is also focusing on cross-platform play for Gears of War 4 between Xbox One and Windows 10 PC. You'll be able to play private versus matches, co-op campaign and Horde mode across platforms. Competitive matchmaking, however, won't be supported. The beta will include all multiplayer maps, a number of reworks and bug fixes as well as a few exclusive rewards for those who can make it to level 20 including a vintage Kait character skin, a vintage weapon skin and a vintage kait emblem.
