When it comes to buying made-to-measure suits, most guys don’t care too much about the thread count and where the fabric came from. What they do care about, however, is a suit that looks great and feels comfortable.
Fortunately, there are now plenty of options for men to buy a well-fitting suit that will do the trick, whether they are looking for something casual or formal. From the online retailer Hive and Colony to the more traditional Franco Uomo, there is a suit out there for every guy who wants to look and feel his best.
Where Hive and Colony Stands Out
Unlike Indochino, which relies on training a global team of stylists to take accurate measurements, and SuitSupply, which has an on-site tailor who performs advanced alterations in their showrooms, Hive and Colony has the Tailor Truck, which roams the streets of select cities equipped with a 3D body scanner that captures over 150 measurements. They also offer one-on-one style consultations at bar tables in their showrooms, and have hundreds of fabric options for custom-made suits and tuxedos.
The only drawback to the company is that they require you to sign up to get access to their site, which can be a little inconvenient if you just want to check out their fabrics or pricing before making a purchase. Also, while their DIY measurement process is fairly straightforward (they provide a series of videos and downloadable PDF guide that are easy to follow), it can be difficult to get some of the more challenging measurements without help from a friend or a tailor’s tape.
